Position Available for an Agricultural Economist

The Agricultural Research Service , U.S. Department of Agriculture,  is 
seeking an agricultural economist with a strong background in sustainable 
agriculture and precision farming.  The Beltsville Agricultural Research 
Center (BARC) is extensively involved in research on sustainable agriculture 
and precision farming and currently has several new and on-going field 
research and demonstration projects.  The individual will be working with 
two other economists and a multi- disciplinary team of scientists at BARC to 
analyze profitability of sustainable agricultural and precision farming 
systems and the trade-offs between economic returns and the environmental 
quality.

This is a full-time post-doctoral research associate position at the GS-11 
level with a starting salary of $38,330 plus fringe benefits.  The initial 
appointment is two years, renewable for another two years depending upon 
satisfactory performance and availability of funds.  

Qualifications include (1)  a Ph.D. degree in agricultural economics with 
experience or major course work in resource economics and 
agriculture-related fields; (2) knowledge of sustainable agriculture and, if 
possible, precision farming; (3) strong computer skills in programming and 
simulation such as economic and crop simulation models; and (4) good 
quantitative skills such as multiobjective programming, linear programming, 
optimization theory, etc.  In addition, general understanding of 
agricultural sciences and knowledge about the relevant issues and problems 
associated with animal waste management, especially on dairy waste 
management are desirable. U.S. citizenship is required.  USDA is an equal
