Position Announcement:  TECHNICAL SPECIALIST, MARKETING/FARM
MANAGEMENT

National private nonprofit organization seeks a highly motivated, 
outgoing person  with  a combination of  work experience, training and
proven leadership skills.  We are especially seeking expertise in 
agricultural marketing, marketing information development,
agricultural business development, and/or whole farm management
approaches applicable to products and production methods within
sustainable agriculture systems.  This is a full-time, regular
position with the Appropriate Technology Transfer for Rural Areas
(ATTRA) program in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  ATTRA is a national,
sustainable agriculture information service administered by the
private nonprofit organization, NCAT (National Center for Appropriate
Technology) and funded through USDA's Rural Business-Cooperative
Service (RBS). 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:  Provide farmers, ranchers and
agricultural organizations with information and referrals for methods
to develop and access markets for sustainably-produced agricultural
products.  Special emphasis will include providing leadership in this
topic area, and appropriately incorporating farmer-controlled,
value-added, local or regional marketing approaches into
production-oriented written materials.   Enhance ATTRA Resource Center
(including both physical and electronic resources) by identifying
appropriate materials, organizational resources, success stories,
contacts, etc.   

Requirements:  Applicant should have, as a minimum, a Master of
Science degree in agricultural economics or marketing, or a related
agricultural field, OR a combination of farming or other work
experience, education and training which demonstrates equivalency. 
Demonstrated skills in enterprise budget work, economic analysis
and/or use of related software is preferred. Experience in commercial
horticultural or agronomic production is  preferred.  A demonstrated
interest in environmentally sound practices and familiarity with
concepts of sustainability and appropriate technology is preferred. 
Applicant must communicate clearly by telephone, in writing, and in
person, and have strong organizational and interpersonal skills. 
Supervisory or project leadership experience and/or Spanish language
skills desirable.  Strong computer and information management skills,
especially in Windows or Microsoft environment, preferred. 
Availability for full time work preferred, but will consider qualified
applicants who are seeking part-time work. 

Compensation:  The starting salary for the position is based upon
experience. Comprehensive fringe benefits include health and
disability insurance, paid vacation, and pension plan.

Working Environment: The position will be with the ATTRA program in
the NCAT-Fayetteville office on the campus of the University of
Arkansas in Fayetteville. Fayetteville is located in the Ozark
Mountains in the northwest corner of Arkansas.  Creative teamwork
office environment. Normal working hours with some travel required. 
There is a 90-day probationary period for all regular positions.  Must
be able to use a computer keyboard and screen, and  work effectively
with stress related to deadlines and multiple priorities.
