For Immediate Release

"Spading Machine" Performs Primary Tillage with Minimal Disturbance to
Biological Activity in Farm Soils

The Italian spading machine represents the greatest improvement in tillage
tools of the twentieth century. This 3pt mounted tractor implement allows a
hard packed field to be converted to a deeply dug, well aerated subsoil,
and a crumbled surface ready for planting in a single slow pass with a low
horse power tractor. While accomplishing this remarkable result no plow pan
is formed, existing hard pans are destroyed and top soil is kept on top,
undiluted with subsoil. In addition, green manures and crop residues are
incorporated into the soil at the most biologically active depth. Primary
and secondary tillage can be accomplished in a single, slow, pass.

On October 4, 1997, Eugene F. Canales, the person who introduced this
remarkable machine to the USA and a columnist for "BIODYNAMICS: Farming and
Gardening in the 21st Century" magazine, will conduct a clinic on the
correct use and maintenance of spaders. Mr. Canales, owner of Ferrari
Tractor CIE, will explain how to select, how to mount, how to adjust, how
to operate and how to care for a spading machine, whether it is a 30 inch
model digging 8 inches deep on a 15 HP mini tractor or a 20 ft. model for a
200 HP field tractor digging 14 to 20 inches deep.

There is no charge for this clinic, which is part of the 1997 Biodynamic
Farming and Gardening Conference, Oct 3-5 at the Claymont Court
Agricultural Project, outside of Charles Town, WV. A reservation is
