TT: Re: Introduction

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Short Introduction - I am a "Natural Resources Specialist" for the City of
Bainbridge Island in the State of Washington. About six years ago, the
City was formed to cover the entire Island to give the Islanders more
control over the land use planning. The Island is a short (35 minute)
ferry boat ride to Seattle. One of the primary goals of the City to
retain the "rural" character of the Island as development occurs. The
Island is 28 square mile with a population of about 19,000. Most of the
Island is covered by sixty year old mixed conifer forest. The primary
challenge is how to save some of the tree cover without have too much
danger from hazard trees.

My background is in timber management having work for an Indian Tribe and
the US Forest Service in production forestry. I also was a science teacher
on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona and maintain an interest in
enivornmental education. My job duties also include wetland management (I
completed a nine
month wetland course in the University of Washington) and water quality.
The leaves are dropping and the salmon are running up our streams.
