 Yesterday I quoted from a letter sent to the FOREST listserv
 (in Finland) from Jim Arnott, concerning the ice devastation
 in New England and Canada.  I wrote to Mr. Arnott to alert him
 that we were circulating his posting, and he was kind enough
 to write back to me, which is excerpted below ...

... Fortunately,
generous, sensitive Americans far outnumber the myopic.  There are
hundreds  of Americans from the Northeastern states who are presently
assisting the Ontario and Quebec Hydro restore power.  Last night's TV
coverage showed the human tragedies unfolding as a result of being
without power for over a week, with the added misery of being advised
that many areas would be without any power for further two to three
weeks... and of course, the temperatures plummet.

Good  see the professional interest building in this newsgroup on
determining the history and impact that storms of this nature have on
the viability of our eastern hardwoods.
