Most of that sleeping foam is open cell, so I would not expect it to be
air tight. However, to take that good idea one step further... Put
squares of the foam in plastic bags to make pillows that could be shoved
into the space between rafters or other big holes. I remember hearing
that some builders use similar pillows with fiberglass batt fillng for
insulating rim joists. One advantage of the pillows is that they could be
easily removed and reused.
