The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority
(NYSERDA) has just released a new study, "Domestic Hot Water
Consumption and Efficiency: Researching Consumption and
Demand in New York City Multifamily Buildings." The study is
labeled Report 97-2.

By continuously monitoring actual domestic hot water use in 50
apartment buildings, the researchers compared traditional sizing
methods with actual peak demands. They also investigated the
operation and efficiency of three common types of water heaters:
direct-fired tank, boiler with indirect-fired storage tanks, and boiler
with tankless coil.

The full report is available from the National Technical Information
Service. NYSERDA can be contacted at (518) 862-1090, ext.
3241.
