I understand the concern for reducing the amount of embodied energy
that you may be concerned about. What I don't understand is your
preference for steel over aluminum.

Aluminum roofing is typically 75% +/- recycled content. Steel studs
are often less, but _can_ be made up to +/- 85% recycled content. I
imagine that similar numbers would apply to siding. It is also my
understanding that the steel industry is more or less self-
monitoring: They are using as much recycled content as possible, due
to economic pressures, not environmental.

As an aside, I'm not sure that aluminum siding is an appropriate
choice for housing, and low income housing in general. This is based
largely on aesthetic concerns...

Please educate me about the roots of your preference.
