GBlist: Silicone caulk

I am trying to figure out what the best material is to seal air leaks in
solar wall collectors. Because of high heat, silicone caulk is recommended
in most literature I have looked at. Does anyone know about the toxicity of
this (especially when exposed to temperatures above 200 deg F)? I know that
it smells funny when freshly applied. Does this smell indicate toxicity?

Thanks for your help!
