GBlist: Green shopping malls?

Lisa

>Is anybody aware of any shopping malls (regional, community and/or strip)
>that have addressed green concerns? I'm looking for case studies where
>energy or water efficiency, lighting, materials, smart land use plans or
>waste management and other operational issues have been addressed, even on
>a superficial level.

Try Randy Croxton's office in New York City
He and I were interviewed (separately) by a Boston-based shopping center
developer who had good positive aspirations for turning their development
product in this ("green") direction. I initially challenged their
intention saying that I thought that shopping centers were (in concept) as
"brown" as it comes. They countered.. we had a good, frank discussion.
Croxton got the job though, and is now, presumably well advanced in design.
