The Faculty of Environmental Design is a dynamic organisation offering
innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to design education, research
and scholarship. It consists of four departments, Architecture and
Building, Graphic Design, Industrial Design and Landscape Architecture. In
addition, the Faculty has two research centres and an international centre,
namely, the Cultural Heritage Research Centre, the Centre for Environmental
Philosophy, Planning and Design and the Centre for Developing Cities. The
Faculty offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs across all of the
above disciplines as well as interior design, urban management and an urban
design specialisation in the MBA degree.
The Professor of Architecture will be based within the Department of
Architecture and Building, but will also have a Faculty wide role as well as
affiliations with research centres. The appointee will assume a
professional and academic leadership role in the Department, be active in
the supervision of research and graduate studies programs, and undertake
research and consultancy. She/he will also be a member of the Dean's
Advisory Committee and contribute to the management of the Faculty in a
University and international context.
You will require a higher degree or equivalent qualification in architecture
and have significant management experience at an executive level in
professional practice, education or a professional organisation. Highly
developed qualities of initiative, leadership, interpersonal skills and
creativity are essential. A knowledge of contemporary theory in an
international context is desirable
