Well, yes. 6BM8/ECL82 has a design maximum of 300V and 550V at cutoff. 6AB8/ECL80 is a smaller triode-pentode but has a design max of 400V (pentode). More data can be found at http://www.algonet.se/~janax/tubedata.htm Note that 6AB8/ECL80 has a common cathode, limiting the choices a lot. 73 - -- Jan, SM5GNN Linkoeping, Sweden janax@algonet.se janax@li.icl.se

Turned it over to you or Dale and *poof!* you were both gone! Yeah, I noticed the band was heavy into QSB, and was fine as long as the SSB did not come up, but when the SSB did, the average voice modulation tone was square in the middle of the passband on the R-388. That was one of the very few times I have ever had trouble on cw from an ssb station. Oh, well, I must be getting old or pfutzing my hearing. Then, the skip went long, and we thought you were having rig trouble or something. Your AF-67 was doing a fine job, and Doug/K7YD's machine likewise. Ol' Neal/N4HAF always blows the front end outta the RX, as does Dale/AD4YH when he's aboard for the watch. Ol' Dale's DX-40 runs like a stripedarsedape going QRQ 35 and above and makes my day. I was hoping more of the West Coast crewe would be there, and we did pick up Jim/W7HPK in Seattle, around 0400Z. I did not hear Vic/K2VCO or Jim/W1HIJ, another pair of CWist regulars. I know, it is that sinkhole in the LA basin with its smog ether sparker destroyer. > Think the band is going long. Doug's signal built up and I talked > to him for another > one. I have been coming up at about 0100 and 0200Z. 80 has been 'so-so'. I have not had much success on 80M lately, but a few are sometimes there on the TV rockko QRG 3579R545. 7050 has been working out pretty well. Earlier on, the QRS folks are there, and later one the QRQ folks come along. But, we gotta get's more o' de Glowbugge and CWist crewe signed aboard for the watch. It seems just a few of us diehards are about. Whar didst everybody go? > Anyway, the setup seems to work. Now this here feller has got a fine howdy do way ta sits back on da veranda, tips a fine mint julep in the grand southern bayou tradition, and dances the ol' dit ditty on the Bugge, and with a grand ol' AF-67 and PMR-7 mobile pair of fine and goodly stock. That has gotta be one o' them thar epitomes de Hamdom. Lessee, I gots one o' them thar folding Army antennamastthingies...... Now a piece of pipe for a base, and a clamp to hold the mast base on, and it sounds like a liesurely way to pick up on 40/30M, in the settin' back style..... neat! Alas, the ol' deck table would croak if I drug up the SRT-14 or even the SRT-4. It might handle the Hartleys or the old ArcusFivus gear, without folding, tho. Nah, mebbee I need ta bring out the GRC-9 for that work. > Tell Neal he was belting one in, and on his last xmission he QSBed > down to nil! Neal/N4HAF always has a pretty fine signal, an' that thar dit ditty dancin' o' his is pure sweet musick outta his sendin' iron..... I dunno why the SRT-14 did not put out more. I had about an amp of RF in the antenna RF ammeter, and that was all I could get out of her last night. I may have to check the rectifiers again. It eats those silly things, and I need to complete out the solid stating of those vacuum rectifiers. That is me one howdydoo to sandystate stuff. Doug/K7YD came on with that 4-1000 and was quite QSA5 here. So's all ye Glowbugge and CWist folks, rallys ye round de ol' 40M QRG, an sees ifs ye canst rattle an' bang around de SSB mush. The Glowbugge crowd comes aboard anytime after dark, but seems that 0100 to 0200 is the best time, and then the QRQ CWist sparkers come aboard around 0300. > 73, > E. V. I am QSP this via both the Glowbugs and CWist lists because we share a common CW mode and a common QRG. Also, a lot of the Glowbugge folks are fine QRQ CWists in their own right, and I am of the opinion that we can have a QRQ roundtable with Glowbottle gear or sandystate gear, and all have a good time. Blame that combo squarely on ol' Boatanchor Bob, fer sure. It is good to combine the CW artists on the QRG, to keep the spirit o' de ol' Rattle an' Banging on the Brass Monkey, alive. On CW, the ancient rigges still puts out fine ether sparks. Besides, that will help keep that raucious silisidebander stuff at bay...... down boy, down boy, dowwwwwwnnnnn...... (:+}}..... (whew.... Well BA Bob, There are four things holding me back and then I'll soon be on: 1. A honeydo list a mile long! (can't do much there but whittle away at it) 2. A 3 1/2 month old (but she goes to bed pretty early) 3. Awaiting me 40M rocks from Phoenix Xtals (the postman hates me) 4. A ground system (my wifes teli rolls and squigles when I TX) But I'm getting closer to gettin' on, and your notes to rally the troops get me fired up to get a little closer every day, even got the straight key polished up! I've got a DX-20 I'm just dying to try out - then onto a HB rig of some sort. See ya on 7050 soon.... 73, Eric - -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ R. There are some neat things there. 1. The SV811-10 Low-Mu Power Triode: 6.3v 4a filament 800v/160ma plate standard 4 pin basing and socket just like a type '10. Now Hear This: 2. The SV572-10 High Performance Audio Power Triode: 6.3v 4a filament (same?) 1000v/210ma plate *** standard 4 pin basing and socket just like a type '10. This would be ideal for a single 4-pin socket style rig that you could interchangeably swap a 10 watt or a 50watt bottle, by merely changing the tube. Alas, the prices are a tad steep, but not too much out of hand for the diehards --- 30 bucks and 57 bucks respectively. The sizes of the tubes are the same, but the elements in the 572 have that nice biggie graphite cathode inside. Sounds like a neat set of tubes. I don't have a high voltage 6T9 equivalent, but maybe something "better"; The 6T9 was primarily used in audio frequency circuits with the triode as a voltage amp and the pentode as a power amp. For RF a 6KY8A may be a better choice. It was used in combined vertical/horizontal deflection circuits and is a Hi mu Triode/Beam Power-Pentode. The max plate voltage on the Triode was 250 and the Beam Power unit was rated at 135, but there isn't any reason why you couldn't run 120 Volts on both.
