Thanks.......rich Good idea...and easy. I put a $1 crystal mic element in a little plastic "project box" about the size of a Marlboro pack, added a PTT pushbutton and a cable, and I had a mic that still does wonders into both the Clegg 66er and the Ameco TX-62. From the standpoint of the radio there isn't much difference between a crystal and a ceramic element. They're both high-impedence. The real differences are between those and dynamic cartridges or (lord knows) carbon. - --73-- - --Jeff Duntemann KG7JF Scottsdale, Arizona

We will have to leave it to the experts to explain the advantages & disadvantages of each for us. Have you looked at recet ARRL Handbooks for information? Thanks.......rich Hi, Rich: The ceramic element is much more durable. Other than that, they are pretty much interchangeable. Commercial crystal mic elements are made from Rochelle salt, which is water soluble; get some moisture in the thing and kiss it off. Ceramic elements, you might imagine, are unaffected by humidity. They're also generally more mechanically sturdy. Both are high-impedance. No reason to use a genuine crystal element nowadays unless you're a slave to tradition or just must have that exact replacement. Hope this helps. 73 John WA6QPL
