Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! That is terrible! Heck - for that price I would rather strip old ceramic octal sockets out of junked BA carcasses people throw away at hamfests or give ya for hauling them off! That is an absurdly high price. I could see $3 or 4 each for decent new ceramic ones with the "ears" for mounting them properly with screws and washers, and solder lugs and all that, but these seems overly steep to me! Though I haven't enjoyed that myself (family matters and shack remodeling) I've heard lots of people locally talking about the band openings and all the FUN that they're having. For those of you who don't know me, My name is Kim Herron and I live in the frozen tundra of southwestern MI. Grand Rapids area. Went to tech school (RETS) 25+ years ago for broadcast engineering and never went into the field... Litton paid LOTS more in business machines and computers. Who knew I'd get shuffled around like I did. I decided that I liked it better when I was home every night and free on weekends. Ended up working on, of all things, cars. Chrysler cars. Pays LOTS better than Litton and is more predictable. My electronic education doesn't hurt at all, since everything is electronic. I got my first ham license in 1969 and the call was WN8FYX. Had lots of fun with the HW-16 and a box of "rocks". Unfortunately code, never my strong point, kept me from upgrading. I was too proud to get a Tech license so the novice lapsed. Took until 1986 for me to get time enough to make it over the hump (13wpm). I decided that I was going to go all the way and finally got my extra in 1993. I have a lot of fun refurbing the old gear that I used to drool over in the ham mags when I was a kid. I couldn't afford the Collins, Drake, Hammarlund, Heath, that used to occupy all my daydream time. So now I am reliving my childhood by getting to play with all the stuff that I could only dream about. Of course, my wife says that I'm just a case of arrested developement anyway. So now I'm trying to get my station room redone to accomodate the Valiant, the HQ-170AVHF and HQ-180A, The Collins S line and the Drake C line. I want to be able to run lowpower AM and might even take a shot at QRP CW. Anyway, that's the way it looks at W8ZV at the moment. Keep the list going Conard. I promote it everywhere I can. It proves that ou don't have to run 2000+ watts to communicate and most people who don't are better operators for it!! Kim Herron kherron@voyager.net or kherron@vixa.voyager.net

Have been working stations further east in the last day or two. Of course, getting my antenna fixed probably helped a bit too. Anyone happening to be listening on 7003, 7015, 7020, or 7050 might keep an ear out for my GRC-109 there. Is the BA/GB gang still meeting on 7060 periodically, or on 7115 ? Have we decided on a frequency? I also found an HC-6/U crystal under the chassis of an old TV set someone gave me, at 3579.545. Soldered some pins on it and it works great. 80 meters anyone ?
