Plate dissipation is 13W per triode and mu is a lowish 2. A low impedance dual triode. I'll say a 3-4 watter Hartley should be possible to do as well as a TNT but not an ECO... or is it possible to create an ECO by cascoding the two triodes? Jan, SM5GNN

Or a pile of graphite. If you forget the series 2 vdc pilot light. Jack, I wonder what you are going to use for the 50k at 25 watts, Grid Resistor (R3)? I paralled (sandwitched between two single sided prepunched FG/G10 PC boards) ten, 500k ohms rated at 3 watts each, film resistors. I kludged up the load to pull 50 mA from 1500 vdc through the bank. RCA recommands 45 mA max on SG-2 at 1500 vdc plate. This circuit is set up to supply 0.030 A or 30 mA. After 15 minutes, POWER OFF PLEASE the resistor bank was barely warm. I used every other hole in the prepunched PCB grid pattern. If we start with 1 Meg ohm resistors and use 20 resistors (same 2 or 3 watt rating) Peter/KH6CTQ

In my hands the 6080's as well as 6336's (even bigger monster) tend to draw very high plate currents. The biasing and feedback taps are more critical than with the 6AS7G. There is a 6583 or something like that that is an equivalent to the 6336, but with a different mu, that works quite well in Hartley service, also. I use it in my Grammer 1932 Hartley 160M set. The classic 6N7 tube should work well, also. As an aside, I wonder how well these low-mu pass regulator tubes would work as switches for keying (a la the old '45 keyer tubes). I would expect them to work rather well as keyer tubes, but have not tried them yet. Barry Ornitz.... you got any thoughts on using these as keyer tubes? I heard W7FG on with his 211 Hartley a few nights back, and it sounded pretty good. Where are all the other Hartleys folks are working on? Bob/NA4G

I have learned a lot from the crewe and hopefully have returned a little in kind. I was hoping to get a Hartley Ralleye going over the holidays, but it may be a bit premature. I will perchance hear a few of you on new year's eve and new years day with some SKN pumphandlin' on the ol BA/GB QRG, anytime. Over the holidays, call CQ BA generally, anytime, and on SKN (New Year's eve and New Year's day) call CQ SKN BA. Report back any fine/wierd/interesting QSO's an' fists de CWIST. I will try to get a little of everything from Hartleys and Regenerators to Big Berthas at full steam, on the air so no tellin' wat ye mighst 'ear on de ol' BA/GB QRG ethers. Another good place to listen is on 3535, where other OT's have been known to hang out. Work on yer Hartleys and other puffers over the holidays, and perchance we will get enough of them up that we can have a Hartley Ralleye in the 2nd weekend of January, if the creek holds water, and don't rise too much. Best o' Glowbuggin' in '98, and fer sures keeps yer bottles a'glowin' bright! 73/ZUT DE NA4G/Bob UP Boatanchor Bob, dat Ol' Greybeardus CW Pfarte......
