Wattage is strictly LOW POWER (0.04W) but great for received signal pads. Frequency range is DC-2.0GHz. See Digikey page: . Oh yeah... there is one other thing: they are only $0.18 ( 18 cents!!!) each in tensies (you have to buy 10... e.g. $1.80's worth.) ALSO: I also have found a GaAs solid state that will handle up to10W (yes 10W) IC FET, SPDT, T/R Switch. It is about the size (or maybe smaller) of an SMT 555 in an 8-pin SOIC package. It can run on 0V and <12V and offers: typical 37dB isolation or better from 0-500MHz; an IP3 > +63 dbM (and that was for 900 MHz-I suspect that is better at HF); an overall frequency range of 0-2.5GHz with a VSWR no more than 1.2:1 to 1GHz. Insertion loss is less than 0.6dB to 500MHz, and < 0.8dB to 2.5Ghz at 25 deg C or less. Control voltage can be between -12 and + 12 VDC as long as the actual voltage 'sum' is <12 VDC. Switching speed is also awesome, in the single digit nanosec range. Control current is only 500uA max. I'll talk some more about this device when I have had a chance to check a parameter I DON'T like. They mention that, when ON, there may be something like 30mV "video feedthru" . I'm not really certain how that affects what WE want it for. However, the device was mainly intended for many applications, including primarily UHF++ mobile radio-as well as cellular, GSM, and GPS... so with all it's graphed specs obviously extending down to 0 MHz, I can't see how whatever that 30mV really implies, really matters to us. Finally, it clearly LIKES being run from, say, about -12 VDC and 0 VDC. It WILL run at +12 VDC and zero... but some of the specs imply it's 'happier' with something negative. Also, I'm not certain about availability and price. I'm getting 10 (surplus) from a guy for about $1.70 each. We've had to get parts for yet another round each for the two daughtercard projects we have and the parts cost from the vendors have gone up. Therefore, effective today (Jan 1) the prices are ... 1) HC908 Daughtercard is now $40 for US & Canada, or $48 for DX. This project is a fully assembled, tested and pre-programmed daughtercard. Full details and ordering information is at the project web page: www.njqrp.org/hc908 2) DDS Daughtercard is now $23 for US & Canada, or $28 for DX. Full details and ordering information is at the project web page: www.njqrp.org/dds. Thanks for understanding the need for these changes ... we hate to do it, but we're operating on a very low margin and can't absorb the vendor increases. All orders received (or postmarked) prior to January 1st will be honored for the previous pricing. 73, George N2APB ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jan 2004 21:59:15 -0500 From: "George Heron N2APB" To: "NJQRP" , "QRP-L" Subject: [164305] AmQRP "Projects" web page updates Message-ID: <006501c3d0dc$69885230$6400a8c0@n2apb1> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit A number of very good, classic NB6M projects have been added to our online Projects page at the AmQRP website ... check them out at http://www.amqrp.org/projects/projects.html. Our local Lowe's store has a pretty good selection of sheet aluminum. I wasn't looking for stuff as thick as 1/16th, so I don't recall what heavier thicknesses they had available, but there was quite a selection. Our local Ace Hardware also had some, although they had less sheet but more shapes than Lowe's. This isn't a huge town here, so I suspect in any decent size town there's going to be a dozen places to get it. I also suspect you're going to get a better price online, but you're going to have to buy a few dozen pieces to make up for the postage. The stuff isn't that expensive. Lowe's also had some beautiful stainless steel. I thought that might make a really nice case for a radio, but when I saw the price on that stuff I figured I better get some practice first! 72/73 de WB8RCR http://www.qsl.net/wb8rcr didileydadidah QRP-L #1446 Code Warriors #35 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ron White" To: "Low Power Amateur Radio Discussion" Sent: Thursday, January 01, 2004 10:50 PM Subject: OT Finding sheet aluminum > I'm trying to find a place to buy a piece of sheet aluminum 12" x 8" x > 1/16". > Can anyone help? > Thank you for any help or advice. > Ron > > Ron White > Amateur radio: wa mww > > ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Jan 2004 07:01:40 -0600 From: John Oppenheimer To: Low Power Amateur Radio Discussion Subject: [164320] Re: OT Finding sheet aluminum Message-ID: <3FF56BB4.6221B652@gte.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Also try http://mscdirect.com/ and http://www.smallparts.com/ Ron White wrote: > > I'm trying to find a place to buy a piece of sheet aluminum 12" x 8" x > 1/16". > Can anyone help? > Thank you for any help or advice. > Ron > > Ron White > Amateur radio: wa mww ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jan 2004 08:29:31 -0500 From: "Dave Richards" To: , "Low Power Amateur Radio Discussion" Subject: [164321] RE: OT Finding sheet aluminum Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit try your local newspaper they use it for printing and my paper sells the used sheets Dave -----Original Message----- From: owner-qrp-l@Lehigh.EDU [mailto:owner-qrp-l@Lehigh.EDU]On Behalf Of Ron White Sent: Thursday, January 01, 2004 10:51 PM To: Low Power Amateur Radio Discussion Subject: OT Finding sheet aluminum I'm trying to find a place to buy a piece of sheet aluminum 12" x 8" x 1/16". This usually occurs between about 50 and 100 miles from the transmitter however, not 900 miles. There's also the possibility of the carrier of WGN beating with another station. The geomagnetic conditions have been disturbed lately and I know that can cause rapid QSB on signals in the lower part of the HF spectrum. I haven't heard geomagnetic storm generated QSB on the medium waves though but I don't see why it couldn't happen, especially at the higher latitudes. 73, Steve Yates - AA5TB Fort Worth, TX http://www.qsl.net/aa5tb/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Jan 2004 11:01:44 -0600 From: "Claton Cadmus" To: mnqrp-l@mailman.qth.net, qrp-l@lehigh.edu Subject: [164327] Minnesota QRP Society January Meeting Message-ID: <3FF54F98.10786.AC0463F@localhost> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Content-description: Mail message body Good Day and Happy New Year to all. The ARC-5 transmitter (T-22/ARC-5) seemed to sound best when loaded to 30 watts output and that's where I ran it. When one of several operators noted my signal drift at about 7044 kHz, I told him that when I drifted down across 7040 I would reduce power to 5 watts and keep on truckin'. < grin > Apologies to those who may have called and not been heard. The ARC-5 receiver (T-27/ARC-5), though fairly sensitive, is broad as a barn door and I heard all stations within at least 5 kHz either side of my operating frequency. In addition, super strong signals way up and down the band could be heard as a loud thump and they desensed signals I wanted to hear due to poor AGC action. Trying to remain totally true to the spirit of "old time" radio, no filters were employed with the 60 year old gear. Nevertheless, I worked several stations whom I know to be avid QRPers. They included, in the order worked, Clif, N5UW, Tom, WD5AGO, "pesky Texan" Chuck, W5USJ, Steve, AA5TB, Phil, K5OGX and Earl, KF0GE. I'm sure there were others. States worked included TX, MD, IL, GA, ID, OH, IN, MI, CO, OK, MS, MO, AR, TN, and AL. Thirty one stations were logged during the 24 hour period. Perhaps my most interesting rag chew was with Gene, K8QP. Gene, who is age 80, repaired ARC-5 gear in the military during WWII. He has a collection of vintage gear ranging from an original breadboard 6L6 oscillator xmtr he used with a Command Receiver to the Swan 750CW he was using at the time of our QSO The most popular key used among those stations that I worked was, of coure, the ubiquitous J-38, followed by the Nye Viking key. One station, AB8FB, was using a McElroy key! Perhaps the next most unusual key was one designed with a leg strap for use in Army tanks. If anyone is interested in a picture of my SKN ARC-5 setup, please e-mail me direct and I'll reply with a picture attached. It was the first SKN in which I had operated. I don't intend for it to be my last. Next year I plan to "go modern" with my Johnson Viking Ranger and Drake 2B receiver. 72/73 Don Whoopin' and grinnin' in old Fort Gibson, oldest town in Oklahoma. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jan 2004 10:16:04 -0800 From: Steve Smith To: qrp-l@Lehigh.EDU Subject: [164330] Fw: GB> Re: Int Xtal QRP TX Message-ID: <20040102.101604.2532.3.sigcom@juno.com> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I forwarded this from the Glowbugs list. The old ARRL handbooks used to have an 80m and 40m receiver that used a 1.7MHz IF. Band selection was done by peaking the front-end tuned circuit on either 80m or 40m. The 1056 could be set to 1.7MHz and the fine-tuning control used as the BFO adjustment. Another NE602 could be employed as the 1st mixer and osc and a crstal filter used for selectivity. Or, you could make it a single-band receiver too and choose the IF based on what crytals you happen to have around. Good for experimenting! 72, John W2XS ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Jan 2004 16:45:47 -0500 From: Lee Mairs To: Low Power Amateur Radio Discussion Subject: [164332] Re: ARC-5 SKN Summary Message-ID: <026d01c3d179$cab51960$0200a8c0@J4> MIME-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: 7BIT Don - I heard you during SKN, but just couldn't get my 2N2-40 to shout louder than the other guys. It was great fun following your preparation, then hearing you and finally reading this last report. However, you did make one error! Somewhere in my pile of junk is an FL-88 audio filter that was used with the Command receivers and was an important part of my first novice station back in 1958. If I find it, I will make it available the next time you use the command sets for SKN. My novice station consisted of a command receiver "band spread" for 40 meters and my Viking Navigator transmitter. I gave the receiver to a neighbor's kid 25 years ago, much the same way my Elmer (and Uncle) W5IT (how's that for a cw call sign) gave it to me in the early 1950s. I sold the Navigator for $40 and have been kicking myself ever since. I'd love to re-create that station for SKN. I also have a command set somewhere in the boxes of stuff moved out here to the mountain after 30 years in Virginia. If I come across it, I will renovate it for SKN in 2004. I only used the transmitter for one qso, and that got me my only OO ticket! 73 de Lee KM4YY/8 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don Foster" To: "Low Power Amateur Radio Discussion" Sent: Friday, January 02, 2004 12:51 PM Subject: ARC-5 SKN Summary > Gang, > > Thanks to all whom I worked during my one band SKN operation for your > patience in tolerating my signal's "whoop" and the ever-present frequency > drift. I always use the straight key, because I never could get the hang of a bug or keyer. I only got about an hour to work SKN, but it was great. Had good QSO's and enjoyed it very much, as usual.
