Bob Jeanne from the Department of Entomology suggested the following: "I would suggest Cornell University (Tom Seeley researches bees), U Minnesota (Marla Spivak), U.C. Davis (I don't have a name there, since Rob Page left), U.C. Riverside (Kirk Visscher), or Arizona State (Rob Page + several others)." Perhaps someone from the list or others in each of these areas could contact these folks about possibility hosting this list? - Paul Aaron Morris said the following on 2/28/2009 12:11 PM: >> Aaron is there any chance we could get 1 month notice to organize? > No. Monday was the negotiated grace period. > >> or I suggest we set up a >> temporary user group on yahoo or whatever with the sole purpose to organize a migration of this list >> somewhere else. > > Plans to that effect are in the works. > > /Aa > > ******************************************************* > * Search the BEE-L archives at: * > * http://listserv.albany.edu:8080/cgi-bin/wa?S1=bee-l * > ******************************************************* ******************************************************* * Search the BEE-L archives at: * * http://listserv.albany.edu:8080/cgi-bin/wa?S1=bee-l * ******************************************************* ========================================================================= Date: Sun, 1 Mar 2009 15:40:25 -0500 Reply-To: Informed Discussion of Beekeeping Issues and Bee Biology Sender: BEE-L@listserv.albany.edu From: Carolyn Ehle Subject: Re: SEVIN Carbamate In-Reply-To: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Peter de Bruyn Kops wrote: >> > > It is my understanding that bees exposed to SEVIN die before returning to > the hive. During our usual mid-summer drought, when almost nothing is blooming and there is no nectar in the herbaceous stuff, the bees collect pollen from corn and apparently bring enough back to kill some or all of the hive. I have not tested it chemically, but I am very allergic to it and the pollen baskets on dead bees have given me a similar reaction. Capped brood and a few young bees and sometimes the queen are often alive if I catch it fast enough. Since Sevin degrades pretty quickly and they usually use 5%, it may have lost enough potency to have a delayed effect. Every time I've gone on a neighbor check afterwards I've found someone using sevin on the corn tops...finally most of my neighbors have been convinced to at least keep it down on the ears. Carolyn in SC, clearing ditches in the first flooding rain in many years!!!!!! Hooray! Now if my hives just survive the 18 degrees forecast tonite....we'll definitely be losing brood. ******************************************************* * Search the BEE-L archives at: * * http://listserv.albany.edu:8080/cgi-bin/wa?S1=bee-l * ******************************************************* ========================================================================= Date: Sun, 1 Mar 2009 22:22:13 +0100 Reply-To: Informed Discussion of Beekeeping Issues and Bee Biology Sender: BEE-L@listserv.albany.edu From: Juanse Barros Subject: More on Global Cooling MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit http://pimpinturtle.com/2009/02/27/the-emerging-sunspot-cycle-24-and-a-weakening-magnetic-field--what-does-this-mean-for-our-planet-and-species.aspx -- Juanse Barros J. At an important note other insecticides can also be carried back to the hive in a like manner such as almost any DUST formulation, even malathion, chlorpyrophos, and many other commercial insecticides etc. Sevin is a short lived chemical, only in relative terms, as it remains active for 5-10 days depending on weather and formulation used. ******************************************************* * Search the BEE-L archives at: * * http://listserv.albany.edu:8080/cgi-bin/wa?S1=bee-l * ******************************************************* ========================================================================= Date: Mon, 2 Mar 2009 08:51:23 -0500 Reply-To: Informed Discussion of Beekeeping Issues and Bee Biology Sender: BEE-L@listserv.albany.edu From: =?windows-1252?Q?Bill_Mondjack?= Subject: BEE-L closing Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="windows-1252" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit I've been receiving this list for years (don't know exactly how many) and have learned so much.
