From eweigel@juno.com Sun Mar 14 14:25:27 1999 Date: Sat, 13 Mar 1999 19:51:19 -0700 From: Edna M Weigel To: sanet-mg@amani.ces.ncsu.edu Subject: nitrogen scavenging plants Dear SANETers: I recall someone looking for a non-nodulating alfalfa for scavenging excess nitrogen. There was much discussion about why one would want such a plant but don't remember any such alfalfa being reported. I just ran across a statement in Peaceful Valley's catalog description for TriosTriticale (Triticum X Secale) which is described as having an aggressive root system: "Use this crop to uptake excess nitrogen." Maybe this would do the job. --Edna ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. The rate of growth is sufficient to allow return of grazing in three years; they are real climate moderators in my experience in hot summers, they lose leaf early; fallen leaf breaks down readily, timber value begins at 8 years and tress coppice with growth back to 5 metres or more in a summer possible after coppicing.
