Then don't miss the sixth and last lecture on the history of six Delaware County, PA, public gardens. The series concludes Monday, May 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the Lang Performing Arts Center at Swarthmore College, and is sponsored by the Delaware County Historical Society. While previous speakers have emphasized their gardens' histories and purposes, Chris Woods, director and primary designer of Chanticleer, Wayne, Pa., will emphasize a more modern theme: the importance of emotion, color and texture in garden design. "Chanticleer is about pleasure, gardening for the joy of it," said Woods. "We're in favor of fearlessness and flamboyance, not putting horticulture into an intellectual straitjacket." Chanticleer occupies the former Rosengarten estate on Church Road. For more information or to obtain a brochure about the lecture series, call DCHS at 610-359-1148.
