Date: Wed, 3 Feb 1999 21:08:24 -0600 From: Sheila Ruff Subject: tufa containers A friend and myself have been making tufa containers the past two days they are a lot of fun....our receipe is   equal parts of peat moss, vermiculite,perlite, portland concrete, and water to make it stick together, you don't want it to wet just so it will hold together...we choose the container we want to use as a form, cover it with plastic wrap and proceed to  cover our form with the mixture....it should be about 2" thick all over...when you are done you cover it with a wet towel and plastic and let it sit over night...the next day remove the form you used and we use a wire brush to expose the aggrigates...then cover again with wet towel and let sit for another 24 hours  then uncover and sit your pot in a cool place out of the sun so it can cure for a couple of weeks...you might want to wash it out with a solution of vinegar and water to neutralize the concrete before you plant in it...good luck!
