It reports research conducted in four states (Iowa to Montana) comparing sustainable and conventional farms (in particular their rural community impacts). It includes results on sustainable farmers' preferred sources of information (sustainable ag organizations much preferred over extension), and pieces from five states on participatory research and successful information sharing among farmers. It is available from the Center for Rural Affairs for $14.95. Write P.O. Box 406, Walthill, NE 68067 or call 402-846-5428 or email hn1721@handsnet.org. Also, I synthesized the various sections of the book that have implications for the conduct of extension in a feature in the June _Consortium News_ the newsletter of the Consortium for Sustainable Agricutlure Research and Education. If you would like to receive that and get on our mail list, contact me directly at the addresses below.
