In response to Suzanne Milshaw's message re: preservation of plant
biodiversity through seed collection.

Several years ago (4 years ago?) I attended a seminar in the Dept. of Fruit
and Vegetable Science at Cornell University.  The seminar dealt with
evaluating genetic drift within the seed storage bank at the Germplasm
Repository at Geneva, New York.  If I remember this correctly, there was
some concern that using greenhouses to grow out seed added selection
pressure to genotypes that would not have occurred in the environment where
the plants were naturally occurring.  I believe it was a Masters thesis
