These lists follow a consistent format and differ only in the way the information is sorted. -USN- CONTENTS 1. Format 2. Sorting 3. Retrieval 4. Source 5. Feedback -USN- 1. FORMAT. From left to right on each line of the lists: -- Prefix and ship name. The prefix is USNS ("United States Naval Ship") for ships operated by the Military Sealift Command. The prefix is USS ("United States Ship") for ships of the active fleet and the Naval Reserve Force. -- Type and hull number. The letter "T" preceding the type designation refers to a ship operated by the Military Sealift Command. -- A single letter appearing in a column headed by an asterisk (*). The letter "A" in this column indicates a ship of the active fleet. The letter "M" indicates a ship operated by the Military Sealift Command. The letter "R" indicates a ship of the Naval Reserve Force. -- Homeport. Listed for active and Naval Reserve Force ships only. -USN- 2. SORTING. These lists are sorted by ship name, type and hull number, and homeport. -USN- 3. RETRIEVAL. The latest updates to these lists may be retrieved electronically as follows: -- From the Navy Public Affairs Library, using the World Wide Web (WWW) or anonymous file transfer (FTP).
