NAVY FACT FILE USS MAUNA KEA (AE 22) MISSION: Ammunition ships deliver ammunition, either independently or with other combat logistic ships, to combatants and/or battle group station ships using both connected replenishment and vertical replenishment. COMMENTARY: The Navy now has two classes of ammunition ships: the Kilauea class and the Suribachi/Nitro class. Kilauea (T-AE 26), lead ship of the class, is operated by the Military Sealift Command.
