/pub/history/military/a-weu/press File: Press1.93 WEU Parliamentarians briefed on operation "Sharp Guard" Naples, October 15th 1993.- The President of the WEU Assembly, Sir Dudley SMITH, MP, visited the flag ship of the WEU Contingency Maritime Force (WEU-CONMARFOR) participating in the NATO/WEU embargo control operation "Sharp Guard" at sea, in the Adriatic. Sir Dudley SMITH was accompanied by Mr. Jacques BAUMEL, Chairman of the Defence Committee, and Sir Keith SPEED, MP, Rappporteur of the Committee. The Assembly's Delegation was also received and briefed in Naples by Admiral BOORDA, CINCSOUTH and Admiral VANDINI, COMNAVSOUTH, on all allied operations relating to the Yugoslavian crisis. Sir Dudley SMITH paid particular tribute to the 12,000 sailors who are taking part in Adriatic operations, ensuring an effective blockade at sea in accordance with UN Security Council resolution.
