top 3.5b8

Mark <mark@ibiblio.org>

What is it
top 3.5b8 is a tool for monitoring processes running on your system and displaying those which are consuming the most resources. It is a very useful tool for studying the health of your machine.

top is very sensitive to the Solaris release and the chipset on which it was compiled. A top compiled on a sun4c 2.6 machine will only run on a sun4c 2.6 machine. I've done my best to include tops for all operating system releases and CPU types that I have access to.

The table below shows exactly which version of top you will find in each package. Remember to check back from time to time if you don't see your system listed as I may have the opportunity to update the packages with a top for your machine.

Use uname -m to determine your chip type.

Use isainfo -b on Solaris 7 or 8 to determine if you have a 32 bit or 64 bit kernel..

Solaris Issues
Please only install the correct version of top for your Solaris system. It is very sensitive to O.S. changes.

Click here to read about the 32 bit and 64 bit Solaris 7 and 8 packages.

Source Code
You can download the source code from ftp://ftp.groupsys.com/pub/top/top-3.5beta8.tar.gz. For those who are inclined to be clumsy, this source code link is NOT the package you should install, go back to the main index and select the binary release for your computer and Solaris release.

Special Issues
See the main packages README for installation information.
