Welcome to Planet Earth!

Sharing * Peace * Justice

Please note: This is an incomprehensive listing of the electronic resources regarding the world and our known universe. If you know of a site whose addition here would benefit the electronic community at large, and which represents the interests of the people of the world, feel free to send email to kelly@sunsite.unc.edu or use this handy-dandy mailform.

The only representative body for the world as a whole is the United Nations, and they have their own WWW page.

There is also an WWW page with a selection of national flags

The earth is a very big place, and the World Wide Web is doing its best to cover the entire planet. The Web continues to grow every day.

Planet Earth's Information Services

Exhibits and Expositions -- Multimedia Projects based here at SunSITE.
The World Health Organization -- " Perhaps the most important task of WHO is to impress upon the international community the need for political commitment to placing health and human beings at the centre of development goals." (from the Director of the World Health Organization, Hiroshi Nakajima)
The Worldbank -- "The Bank's mission is to help developing countries reduce poverty and promote sustainable development."
The EINet Galaxy -- Provided as a public service by the TradeWave Corporation, EINet is a well-organised category listing of nearly everything under the sun, from the Humanities to Engineering and Sciences.
A Guide to Cyberspace -- Written by Kevin Hughes, this is a good starter document for Internet users who are relatively new in using the World Wide Web.
The WWW Virtual Library -- Conceived by the W3 Consortium, the WWW Virtual Library is a loosely organised "library", with information housed in universities across the globe. This is sometimes the best way to obtain information, as experts in various fields will offer to "host" the library at their particular University. Subjects range from Beer and Brewing to Crystallography and Standards and Standardization Bodies.
Weather maps and information from across the world.

And on the same note as the above, take a gander at the world travel information (currently barebones - we welcome your input!).

* The Virtual Tourist
* A geographical list of WWW servers, arranged alphabetically by continent, country and state.
* What's new with NCSA Mosaic -- Daily updates and interesting information from the web browser that started the hypertext revolution
* Guide to Guides -- Looking to travel? Going out of the country -- or just across your own? Here's a look at some of the more memorable travel guides, housed on desires.com, a monthly electronic magazine with excellent writing and fiction and reviews.
