Percy Stories ForumThis space is dedicated to providing general readers to share personal responses to the work of Walker Percy.
Many of us have inspiring stories to share about our encounters with Walker Percy, both the man and his powerful legacy to us. Since late 1994, when The Walker Percy Project was first launched, it has only become increasingly more apparent that hundreds upon hundreds of people have found their lives greatly, and perhaps deeply, in many cases, touched by Percy. Dr. Percy himself was approached by countless individuals throughout his life, all seeking to honor him for the powerful effect he had upon them and their lives. As a tribute to this "mysterious phenomenon" (in the words of one careful Percy reader), the following forum is dedicated to providing a public space for readers to record their experiences for the benefit of others. All are a testimony to a man whose stories do not end with his novels, but rather begin again and continue with us. Please consider sharing your own version of that story.

"Before Walker Percy, I was not much. Now this is
not just a roundabout way of saying that after Percy I do amount to much,
in the usual sense. I don't. What I mean is that reading Percy has forced
me to think about a lot of things, which become one thing, myself. I am
not claiming that I have gotten hold of some great idea that explains everything
else. But I do know now what to think about, the uncertainties. In that
way, I am much more now than I was before Percy. I am not always happy
about this change, for thinking about uncertainties can be unsettling.
But not thinking about them is a wasted life. Such thinking has not made
me smug, for I have learned that I'm not unique. Many another reader of
Percy has told me of the same change..."
