Susan's Space

Hi! My name is Susan Baker. Library science graduate student at UNC by day...and by night (sigh). This is what I looked like approximately 30 years ago, followed by what I approximately look like today.

I don't like pictures of me but I like the idea of being a faceless entity still less.

Interesting tidbits

I was born in mid May, and consider myself a fairly typical Taurus (I'm stubborn and I would like to own lots of real estate). My detailed and personalized horoscope says that I shouldn't operate heavy machinery, and I'm inclined to agree.

My cats are amazingly tolerant of me, and very handsome-- don't you think so?

The orange tabby cat is Jonah; the black one, Amos. Amos can be quite vocal!

When I'm not being a graduate student, I like to go jogging-- if it's not very far or very fast. I also like to go scuba diving with my boyfriend Robert.

Last summer we went with some friends on a weeklong liveaboard diving trip in the Bahamas-- fourteen people together on a 57 ft. sailboat!!

The most famous person I've ever met is Princess Diana.

Well-- I wasn't actually introduced but I did get to shake her hand in a crowd. That was last summer in Oxford, when I was in Britain for the first time. Diana and graduate seminar credit too--what more can you ask for from a trip?

Favorite Stuff

I like eating warm peanut butter cookies with cold milk while reading Dorothy Sayers...Amanda Cross...Richard bach...John McDonald...Isaac Asimov...Marge Piercy...old Stephen King....well, almost anything short of Danielle Steele!
I like like eating hot dogs and drinking beer at Durham Bulls baseball games.
If I could eat only one type of food for the rest of my life, it would be Italian.
I like making fun of trashy "B" movies with Joel or Mike and the 'bots. Any MiSTies [audio] out there? What about "Rocky Horror"[audio] fans?
I like regular movies too--my all time favorite is "The Graduate"-- but I'm far more likely to cry watching "Old Yeller" than "Terms of Endearment". Go figure.
Musically speaking: my tastes range from Billy Joel to Kate Bush. my heart's still in the eighties, really. I sing in the shower a lot, too, certain of dormant musical ability.

My pet peeves
- People with no sense of humour
- Salespeople or survey takers who knock on your door or call on your phone
- Plants that won't bloom no matter what you do
- Computer systems that fail when you have project deadlines

  - Random acts of kindness.
  - Effortless beauty.
  - And not least--people who REALLY understand computers!!!
