Below is my original message. Some added data -- my husband tells me that this worm had thin, black stripes going down his body lengthwise. Thanks! -- http://home.earthlink.net/~peregrine/

Hello, I've been searching all over the web and even in the bookstore, and I can't find the answer to this question. Perhaps you can help me! My husband and I came across an odd-looking worm the other day, which was crossing the sidewalk between two grassy areas. It was about 12" long, sort of silvery-black in color, a bit slimy, and not lumpy or segmented like earthworms. It had a weird-looking head, sort of like a hammer-head shark! Or kind of a diamond-shaped head or a large triangle for a head, with the arrow pointing forward. Hard to describe. We live near San Jose, California (about 60 miles south of San Francisco); temperate, moderate climate. I'm just going crazy with curiosity. What kind of worm was it??!!! Do you have any idea? I'd really appreciate your help! Thanks. Best regards, JoJo Zawawi -- http://home.earthlink.net/~peregrine/
