Demetrius Phalerius librarian at the Alexandrian library says that Aristeas
a courtier of Ptolemy I Philadelphus (284-247 B.C.) proposed that a
translation be made of the Jewish laws. This legend is also mentioned by
both Philo and Flavius Josephus.
