Download the DOS or Windows Version ?

IMPORTANT

The underlying data is the same for both the DOS and the Windows version. You can take either software package and you will have the latest data.

The DOS package will no longer be updated, so if you can live with either package, take the Windows package.

DOS SOFTWARE

Advantages

• faster than the Windows program
• takes less hard disk space than the Windows program (7 M for DOS versus 19 M for Windows)

Disadvantages

• printer support is poor
• reporting ability is poor

WINDOWS SOFTWARE

Not recommended unless you have a Pentium machine running at 90 MHz or greater with at least 16 M of RAM. The program will run on machines with less power, but performance will be poor.

Advantages

• new report writer - select items from the database and print or save in different formats (eg, Excel)
• new query maker - reuse queries (Filters), not necessary to enter a new query expression every time
• new routine for CpG analysis
• new tool for molecular visualization of protein structure (RasMol)

Disadvantages

• slower than DOS program
• takes more hard disk space (19 M total)
