Dave, I have no info on how alfalfa might come up through silt. But how different is this from several inches of volcanic ash? Perhaps some of the alfalfa folks in the Columbia Basin can remember back to 1980 and give you some help based on that experience. Don't know if any of them are member of this list. Good luck.
