Arkansas Forage Position
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT -- FORAGES
POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant Professor - Animal Science and Extension
Specialist - Forages and Livestock
LOCATION: Southwest Research and Extension Center located near Hope, Arkansas
SALARY: Commensurate with training and experience
QUALIFICATIONS: A Ph.D. in agronomy, animal science, range management, or
closely related field is required with extensive training in forage
management and utilization by ruminants.
DESCRIPTION: This position has dual responsibilities in Research and Extension.
RESEARCH RESPONSIBILITIES: Research is to be conducted in pasture
management and utilization with beef cow-calf pairs and stockers. Research
experience in soil fertility, legume persistence, species evaluation, and
other production practices relating to forages is essential. Major emphasis
will focus on the development of forage management systems to optimize
forage production and utilization.
EXTENSION RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent will provide subject matter
training to county Extension agents and prepare educational support
materials for the agents' use in serving clientele. This individual will
serve as a resource person to county Extension agents at grower meetings,
assist with forage and livestock problem solving, and may conduct
off-station farm tests and demonstrations to enhance the delivery of
information. Ability to communicate and work with beef cattle industry is
essential.
POSITION AVAILABILITY: July 1, 1997, or as soon thereafter as a highly
qualified person can be employed.
