INFORMATION SOURCES/CONTACTS

For sources of information and contacts on sustainable agriculture
research, or other agricultural, forestry, or food and nutrition
related research, a search of the research project file of the
Current Research Information System (CRIS) may prove helpful.
For those who may be interested, below is a brief description of CRIS
and methods for accessing the file.

                CURRENT RESEARCH INFORMATION SYSTEM

USDA and State research scientists, research managers, and extension
specialists may request searches of the Current Research Information
System (CRIS) database - without charge for the service.

CRIS documents new, ongoing, and recently completed research of the
USDA/State university land-grant system. CRIS technical information
specialists will conduct searches of the database and provide results
(project summaries) in hard copy, on diskette, via e-mail, or by
fax, usually within 10 days of receipt of the request.

Requests may be submitted by PHONE: 301-504- 6846, FAX: 301-504-6272,
or E-MAIL: cris@cris.nalusda.gov. Address written requests to:
Current Research Information System, USDA, National Agricultural
Library Bldg., 5th Floor, Beltsville, MD 20705.

The CRIS/USDA database may also be searched directly on DIALOG, the
online retrieval system of Knight-Ridder Information, Inc., on the
AGRISEARCH CD-ROM of SilverPlatter Information, Inc., and currently
with some search limitations on the INTERNET via Gopher and WWW.
The CRIS office can provide additional information on direct access.

Local libraries may also offer online search service and/or CD- ROM
access to the CRIS database.
