4-STATE REGIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

You are cordially invited to attend the 4-State Heartland
Community Development Conference. The theme, "Forest and Woodland
Resources for Sustainable Community Development" seeks to bring together
region-wide, long-range forest assessment and planning efforts with
community-based planning and development. The long-range goal is to
foster sustainable community development in a region-wide basis.

The 1996 conference will include:

*Informative and Inspirational Keynote Address
*Community-based Presentations
*Presentation of the Ozark/Ouachita Highlands Assessment (A joint
activity of the Mark Twain, Ozark-St. Francis, and Ouachita National
Forests)
*Panels of Resource Persons and Agencies (State Foresters, Rural
Development Councils, RC&D's, Electrical Cooperatives, etc.)
*Posters and Displays
*Special Interest Discussions

WHO SHOULD ATTEND AND WHY

*Local community people interested in community development
opportunities and in long-range forest planning.
*Community, county, and state, local and multi-county planning and
development associations.
*Groups and organizations interested in forestry issues.
*Local, state, and national elected officials.
*Community and economic development professionals.

Woodlands and forests are an important part of the resources of
the 4-State Heartland Region, and of its attractive natural environment.
Many innovative ideas are being tried to achieve sustainable community
development with these resources. The three National Forests of the
region will soon revisit their long-range forest plans, and have
launched a region-wide Assessment to prepare. This will guide the use
of these forests well into the next century. Anyone and everyone
interested in these issues should come.

Fayetteville, Arkansas is a beautiful and rapidly growing
community of 42,000 situated in the very center of the Ozark/Ouachita
Highlands region. The Hilton Hotel is at 70 North East Ave., just a
block off of Fayetteville's beautiful down-town square, a block off of
Business #71, and directly connected to the University of Arkansas
Continuing Education Center.
