I was surprised to hear that USDA is mandating the labelling of
Organically-produced crops. I had always thought that labelling of these
crops was a means of market differentiation -- that is, was desired by
the producer because of the higher prices afforded to organic produce.
I could see USDA getting interested in verification of organic labelling or,
even, of standardization of labelling (eg meanings of words, etc.), but am
surprised to see it mandated!
