“Experiential Learning in Sustainable Agriculture”

March 4 & 5, 1997

*Topic statement:
Experiential learning (learning by doing) provides unique opportunities to
meet the needs of highly interdisciplinary areas of study such as
sustainable agriculture. As a result of attending this workshop
participants will:
- be aware of current trends in higher education, specifically those
related to integrating hands-on experience with academic coursework;
- understand underlying concepts and principles of experiential
learning;
- identify strengths and weaknesses of current internship models;
- develop specific learning activities for students using the
experiential learning model.

Bruce Barnett, professor and director, Division of Educational Leadership
and Policy Studies, University of Northern Colorado

Patricia Lee, associate professor, Department of Special Education,
University of Northern Colorado

Juanita Reed-Boniface, educational consultant, JRB Associates, Inc.

*Location:
The workshop will be held at the Sheraton Minneapolis Metrodome, 1330
Industrial Boulevard. A block of sleeping rooms has been reserved at a
special rate of $70 plus tax for single or double occupancy. Please make
hotel reservations directly by calling 1-800-777-3277 no later than
February 10 and request the special “Sustainable Agriculture Workshop”
rate. Registrants will receive a confirmation letter describing airport
shuttle information and a hotel location map.

*Registration:
The workshop registration fee is $50. A special rate of $20 is available
for full-time students. This fee includes instructional materials,
refreshment breaks, and lunch on both days. The registration fee is
non-refundable, however substitutes will be accepted. Registrations must
be received no later than February 21.
