HEY ALL YOU FARMERS AND FARM ADVISORS: WORKING HARDER AND GETTING BIGGER
ARE NOT THE ONLY WAYS TO BE FARMING IN THE FUTURE!

Another year has zipped by and the 1997 Great Lakes Grazing Conference is
rapidly approaching. It's slated for February 17 & 18, 1997 at the McCamly
Plaza Hotel in Battle Creek MI.

The conference agenda looks pretty nifty with sessions by lots of graziers
along with extension professionals, researchers, veterinarians, (For the
uninitiated I provide a brief glossary only because I heartily embarassed
myself when I was new at all of this: a" grazER" is an animal that grazes.
A "grazIER" is the person that orchestrates the system.)

Here are some highlights from the agenda...

GRAZING BASICS: "Making Use of What You Have: Total REsource Mgmt",
"Renovating Pastures", "Paddock and Water System Design", "Getting Started"
(panel),

MASTERING THE ART: "Is the Gain Worth the Pain?", "Bloat" (panel),
"Broadening Your Horizons: Pastured Poultry, Bison, Fallow Deer, Fee Hunting"

MANAGING THE EXTREMES: "Management Schemes From Around the World", "2 Years
of Drought", "Mud, Mud and More Mud"

GETTING THE KIDS IN LINE: "Contracting Lambs", "Selling Your Banker on
_________ (Sheep, Cattle)", "Getting Animals on my Farm", "Raising Calves"

CUTTING MAMA'S GROCERY BILL: "Stockpiling" and "Managing Pastures and
Parasites", "Should I own a Baler or a Trailer?" "Parlor, Pasture, Pellets
or Pulverized?"

Speakers include E. Ann Clark, Allan Nation, Dave Forgey, Rob Ashley,
Richard Leep, Daryl Clark, Bob Hendershot....

A trade show will go on throughout.

For registration information and a registration form, call (614) 397-0401

The Great Lakes Grazing Confernce is brought to you by (here in no
particular order except that I put Michigan first because I live and work
here and lots of the conference planners are friends and compatriots)

and The Ohio State University.

See you there!
