NEW REPORT ON FORESTS FROM WORLD RESOURCES INSTITUTE
 ****************************************************

"LAST FRONTIER FORESTS: Ecosystems and Economies on the
Edge", a new World Resources Institute study and global
mapping project, will be simultaneously released at a news
conference and over the Internet on TUESDAY, MARCH 4, 1997
AT 9:00 A.M. (EST). The study and state of the art
Geographic Information System (GIS) maps spotlight Earth's
"frontier forests" -- the last major tracts of undisturbed
forests large enough to provide a safe haven for all their
indigenous species and likely to survive indefinitely
without human intervention and forest management if key
decisions are made now to allow that to happen.

* The news conference will be broadcast live via
RealAudio on Webactive beginning at 9:00 a.m. (EST).

* Web users can find the news conference along with the
text and maps from the report by going to the WRI Forest
Frontiers Initiative website at:

* To listen to the news conference, you will need the
RealAudio software. If you don't already have the RealAudio
plug-in ("Real Player"), you can find it at
"http://www.realaudio.com/".

* After the broadcast, the report text, maps and
archive of the news conference will be available for
downloading to Internet browsers through the Forest
Frontiers Initiative website.

Comments and questions about this report can be addressed to
email address: "ffi@wri.org".
