Hi:  a short intro from a newcomer:
I am Abby Jordan.  I have just founded a community nonprofit org in a
rural area just outside Atlanta GA.  Right now we are farmland and
trees, with scattered small residential pockets - very livable and
beautiful, but soon to be suburbanized!
Our focus is sustainable development and environmental protection.  I
will be reading this list for statistics and advice on protecting our
trees, greenbelts, etc.  Any copies of aggressive tree protection
ordinances out there?  
I will also read pednet for quidance on incorporating ped friendly
features into subdivisions and "growth nodes".  
I serve on our county's Citizens' Commission on the Environment which
has input on county ordinances. 
Any citizens out there who have experience on working with their
municipality on land use planning - please e-mail me with encouragement!
