My e-mail doesn't seem to be working quite right.  This is in reply to
"has anyone ever seen a redwood away from the foggy NW?"  

As the questioner mentioned, the dawn redwood seems to do fine in a lot of
different places.  There is one growing on Houston Street between 1st and
2nd Avenue which is a major truck route in the middle of Manhattan.  It is
less than 25 years old and taller than the 70 foot building behind it.  It
has almost finished dropping its needles for the year.  It sits in a well
tended community garden - Liz Christy.

There are other ones around New York but mostly in botanic garden
settings.
