TT: Athens, GA UGA Campus

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------
That tree is Quercus robur, English Oak. There is a plaque that indicates that
the oak seedlings were given to each of the Olympic athletes in the 1939(??)
Olympics. The athletes name escapes me now.

Also on the UGA campus are the parent trees of the Allee Elm (Ulmus parvifolia
"Allee") and the Athena Elm (U. parvifolia "Athena"). Neither of these is
marked. The Allee, across the street from the coliseum was recently the
recipient of construction damage; extent not known. Hopefully minor. Dr. Dirr
was responsible (involved) with selections from both of these trees. Both are
currently grown in the trade.
