TT: RE: Regional Forestry Councils

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Liz,

We, in Alabama, have had and do have regional councils with varying
success. I was chairman of one region for several years and after my time
commitments got busier, it sort of died. We still have one regional
council in the Birmingham area and they meet about once every 6 weeks.
There is no formal structure, though. Our state council desires to form
more of these regional councils with the chair of each being on the state
council. The best suggestion is to have meetings on topics that many
people will desire to learn about. We have found that to be the key. If
you do the same old thing without any structure or information, the
attendance drops in a hurry.

Seasons Greetings! The Washington State Community Forestry Council is
exploring the possibility of adding regional councils to our current
executive committee. We see there would be many advatages-more support for
local issues, less distance to travel, easier for people to get to
meetings, and get more folks involved. I remember hearing in Atlanta that
the Illinois Council has this sort of structure. I would appreciate
hearing from them and others as to how their charter and bylaws are
written and any other recommendations for Washington State. Thank you.
