*** ACTION ALERT - Stop the Quincy Logging Bill! ****

PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATOR TODAY TO URGE HIM OR HER TO OPPOSE THE QUINCY LOGGING
BILL! CALL (202) 224-31211. ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO CALL TOO!!!

Sen. Dianne Feinstein is working hard in Washington to try and get the
full U.S. Senate to vote soon on the so-called "Quincy Library Group
bill."

This bill (S. 1028) will vastly increase logging on 2.5 million acres
of public forest lands in the northern Sierra Nevada. SENATORS
THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY NEED TO HEAR FROM THOUSANDS OF CITIZENS THAT THIS BILL
***IS CONTROVERSIAL*** AND DOES *NOT* HAVE WIDE PUBLIC SUPPORT!!! Be sure to
let them know SENATOR BARBARA BOXER NOW OPPOSES THE BILL!

CALL EARLY TODAY! For more details see the story below!!!

Thank You!

QUINCY LOGGING BILL: A PLAN OUR FORESTS CAN'T AFFORD

"Consensus" Tittle Hides a Clear-Cut Reality

Supporters of the Quincy Library Group Bill (S. 1028 / H.R. 858) claim
the bill is a "consensus" logging plan developed by a small handful of
Plumas County residents known as the "Quincy Library Group." In
reality, the Quincy logging bill is little more than a massive federal
subsidy for one of California's largest timber companies... and would
set a terrible precedent for ALL national forests around the country!

Over 140 local, regional, statewide, and national conservation
organizations oppose the legislation because:

* IT'S TOO BIG: The Quincy logging bill requires logging up to 345,000
acres of public forest over a five year period. It will almost double
the volume of logging in the northern Sierra.

* IT'S TOO DAMAGING: The bill fails to protect ancient forests which
provide habitat for threatened wildlife. It will require the
construction of more than 100 miles of new roads, greatly increasing
erosion and water pollution in watersheds that supply much of
California's drinking water.

* IT'S TOO RISKY: In the guise of controlling fire danger the bill
mandates highly experimental and untested logging methods which may
not reduce fire danger at all.

* IT'S TOO COSTLY: The bill will cost federal taxpayers more than $70
million to implement, an estimate that doesn't include annual
maintenance costs of up to $1.8 million.

Because the Quincy logging bill fails to protect ancient forests, and
because of the strong outcry from activists like you, Senator Barbara
Boxer has withdrawn her support from the bill!!! Now, the bill's
primary sponsor -- Senator Dianne Feinstein - needs to hear from
Californians concerned about their public forests.

PLEASE CALL YOUR SENATOR TODAY AT (202) 224-3121 AND TELL HIM OR HER TO STOP
THE QUINCY LOGGING BILL! THIS IS NOT A CONSENSUS AND IS A VERY BAD PRECEDENT
FOR ALL NATIONAL FORESTS!!!!!
