GBlist: regenerative braking for elevators

It seems to me that I came across an article (perhaps in Environmental
Building News?) that discussed the generation of power from elevators in a
manner like regenerative power from electric vehicles when they coast
downhill. Is this a figment of the imagination, or was there really such
an article and could this concept hold water? Thanks for any useful
comments.
