Air conditioners that use high velocity, small diameter ducts are not
ductless. They have high velocity, small diameter ducts.

There are, however, ductless air conditioners. Sanyo, Mitsubishi and
several others make them. They are more commonly called ductless
mini-split systems. They have an outdoor compressor and an indoor unit
which are connected by refrigerant and electrical lines. They are very
quiet and are often used in retrofits.
