The use of 'earth walls' attracted(s) similar criticisms but I
understand that in australia its entered mainstream use for conventional
housing ie. tract housing - as a 'cementious reinforced wall system'.
(anyone have more information on this?)
My own reaction to the incredible amount of activity around
strawbuilding has been surprise that this alt. system among so many
others would carry such broad appeal with end users. My suspicion about
its lack of appeal for most designers (myself included) is that it is so
difficult to render because the walls are so damm crooked.
Even though my last comment is probably more true than I would like to
admit I had not considered its usage because it did not seem possible
that its usage could ever influence mainstream practice. I think I was
wrong and I imagine we will soon see some industry spin-offs in the form
of some very uniform and drawable borax treated blocks.
