TT: woods in stores

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------
This weekend I was at the State University of New York's college of
Environmental Science and Forestry addressing a student conference. At
the end of the conference, about 40 students from around New York and New
Hampshire decided to protest the cutting of old growth/rainforests. They
staged a protest at Home Depot (apparently the largest retailer of such
woods in the country).

I suppose the point of this posting is a reminder that although most of
the people on this list-serv are aware of the problems and even some of
the products (board feet of western red cedar, mahogony, etc.), I would
bet a bunch of us didn't read the lable too carefully when buying our
hand-tools, shovels, hoes... And I know for myself, a reminder every
so often, of where trees come from and where they are ending up is a good
thing.
